About This Project

This is exactly what solar on a new construction home should look like: thoughtfully designed, fully integrated, and built as part of the home—not added as an afterthought.

For this new home in Stoneham, we installed a complete solar and battery storage system featuring a 16.10 kW DC solar array and 20 kWh of Enphase battery storage.

The system includes 35 high-output REC 460W Pure-RX panels and is estimated to produce approximately 21,404 kWh per year. Two Enphase IQ Battery 10C units provide the homeowner with stored energy, greater control over when that energy is used, and a stronger foundation for the home’s future energy needs.

The homeowner also enrolled the system in both SMART 3.0 and ConnectedSolutions, allowing the solar and batteries to do more than reduce the home’s utility costs—they can also generate additional incentives through solar production and battery participation.

The result is a beautiful, high-performance solar and storage installation that fits perfectly with the new home.

Design Highlight

One of the biggest advantages of planning solar and battery storage during new construction is the ability to create one complete energy system from the beginning.

Instead of installing solar today and figuring out battery storage later, this homeowner chose to build both into the home’s long-term energy plan.

The 16.10 kW solar array produces energy for the home, while the 20 kWh battery system provides additional flexibility by storing energy for use when it is needed. The system was designed to support the home today while creating a strong foundation for future electrification.

Why We Chose This Equipment

This system brings the solar panels, microinverters, batteries, controls, and monitoring together into one coordinated home energy system.

The REC Pure-RX panels provide 460 watts of power per panel and use high-efficiency HJT N-type technology, allowing the system to generate more power from the available roof space.

The Enphase IQ8X microinverters allow each solar panel to operate independently while providing detailed panel-level monitoring through the Enphase platform.

Two Enphase IQ Battery 10C units provide a combined 20 kWh of usable storage. Using Enphase for the microinverters, batteries, controls, and monitoring gives the homeowner one connected ecosystem for managing both solar production and stored energy.

The SnapNrack RL Universal racking system provides a durable, low-profile mounting solution designed for dependable long-term structural performance and a clean finished appearance.

SMART 3.0 + Net Metering

This homeowner took the additional step of enrolling the completed system in both of Massachusetts’ major solar and battery incentive programs.

Through SMART 3.0, the homeowner can receive a production-based incentive for the electricity generated by the solar system, including the applicable benefit for pairing solar with battery storage.

Through ConnectedSolutions, the batteries can participate in scheduled utility events during periods of high grid demand. In exchange for that participation, the homeowner may receive additional performance-based battery incentives.

This means the system is designed to provide value in several ways: generating solar energy, storing energy for later use, reducing reliance on utility electricity, and participating in available Massachusetts incentive programs.
